What No One Told Me After My Gallbladder Removal at 22
At 22, I was rolled into an operating room to have my gallbladder removed. I was told it was a "routine" procedure—that the gallbladder was essentially a disposable organ, like an appendix. "You don’t really need it," they said. "Just avoid greasy pizza for a few weeks, and you’ll be fine."
For the next two decades, I believed them. But looking back from age 50, I realize that surgery was the quiet beginning of a metabolic landslide that led me straight toward migraines, joint pain, and eventually, Type 2 Diabetes.
Beyond the “Aromatase Ache:” Reclaiming My Mobility After Breast Cancer
Let me tell you about the morning I could barely step out of bed and put weight on my feet.
I had beaten cancer, and yet, there I was in tears every morning. Waking up in immediate pain.
That's the part nobody really prepares you for.
The “Brain Storm:” Why Sugar Was the Secret Trigger for My Migraines
For 40 years, I lived in fear of the aura.
You know what I mean if you've been there — that flickering light at the edge of your vision that starts innocently enough, before your stomach drops because you know what's coming. The next two days gone. Curtains drawn, cold compress on your forehead, willing the world to just be quiet for five minutes. Cancelled plans, missed moments, apologies to people who never quite understood why you couldn't just push through.
I missed birthdays. I missed meetings. Migraines didn't just steal hours — they stole parts of my life.
